Paediatric 2 Day Child Care Provider

Sep 2008 this course is also a requirement for all schools that have children of 5 years or less (EYFS Statutory Framework). Course Content:
Incident management: • Types of incidents that happen in a childcare setting • Reporting of incidents to parents and
recording in the setting • The priorities of treatment for babies and children and the mechanics of injury • Managing the unconscious baby and child.
Resuscitation/Choking: •
Causes of hypoxia in babies and children • CPR for babies and children • Managing a choking baby and child both conscious and
unconscious.
Bleeding, Burns and Shock: • Contents of a First Aid Kit • Treatment for major and minor wounds • Foreign objects in
ears, eyes and nose • Nose bleeds, teeth knocked out and bites • Treatment for shock • Treatment of a burns and scalds • Hygiene procedures. Unconsciousness: • Head injury • Poisoning (including
Anaphylactic shock) • Electric Shock • Hyperventilation/Asthma • Hypoglycemia • Seizures/ Febrile convulsions. Fractures: • Causes and recognition of fractures (including greenstick) • Treatment of fractures to upper and lower
body •
Neck and spinal injuries • Cause, recognition and treatment for sprains and strains. Minor illness and miscellaneous conditions: • Recognition and management
of conjunctivitis, sickle cell anemia, aches and pains, diarrhoea andvomiting • Recognition of chicken pox, measles, German measles, mumps and meningitis• Administering medication.
This course is very practical
and will require the participants to demonstrate procedures on the floor.
Participants must be fit enough to get themselves on and
off the floor in order to access the casualty and demonstrate a level of stamina through the administration of CPR.
Everyone is advised to wear practical
clothing such as trousers and flatshoes for the duration of the course. Assessment is continuous during the course and the certificate provided lasts for 3 years.
